Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and Critical Care Transport Faculty Opportunity

Baystate Health, western Massachusetts’ premier healthcare provider and home to the University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School – Baystate, is seeking an Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Physician to join our organization.

Position Highlights –

• Provide medical oversight for prehospital emergency response agencies (fire-rescue, EMS, police, and dispatch) as well as critical care and interfacility transport for the Baystate Health organization. Baystate Medical Center, the region’s only Level I Trauma and tertiary care referral center, serves over 120,000 annual ED visits. Our EDs serve a combined volume of over 200,000 annual visits. More than 40,000 EMS arrivals are brought to Baystate Medical Center annually.
• Join our team of 3 progressive BC/BE EMS physicians who provide oversight of EMS at our 4 hospitals across western MA, alongside a dedicated EMS Manager, 4 EMS Coordinators, and support staff.
• Provide medical direction for a new, CAMTS-accredited ground Critical Care Transport program, the only service of its kind in western MA, as well as air-medical transport.
• Play a key role in the expansion of our EMS services to include an ACGME-approved EMS fellowship, prehospital physician field response/on-scene medical control, Mobile Integrated Healthcare, and prehospital research.
• Assist with the oversight and delivery of a variety of services to urban, rural, municipal, volunteer, private, and Fire Department-based agencies as well as regional specialty rescue teams.
• Receive dedicated academic time to direct our regional EMS system in conjunction with our Regional EMS Medical Director and EMS Manager and Coordinators.
• Enjoy a combination of clinical care and resident and medical student teaching with a faculty appointment at University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School – Baystate.

Qualifications:
• ABMS BC/BE in Emergency Medical Services is required. A focus on prehospital clinical research and quality improvement is highly desirable, as is a strong commitment to collaboration, quality, systems integration, and lifelong learning.
• Prior critical care and/or critical care transport medicine experience is preferred.
• Demonstrable record of collaboration, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and enthusiasm for medical education and mentorship. Our division greatly values teamwork, collegiality, and work/life balance.
