System Chief, Division of Hospital Medicine

The University of Massachusetts Medical School-Baystate (UMMS-Baystate) and Baystate Health are seeking a System Chief of Hospital Medicine in western Massachusetts. The System Chief will oversee nearly 115 physicians and 41 Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) in a 4-hospital integrated healthcare system consisting of one academic medical center and 3 community hospitals.
The System Chief of Hospital Medicine (SCHM) will be responsible for:
• Managing a seamlessly integrated, multi-site Hospital Medicine program, bringing hospitalists and advanced practitioner providers (APPs) from each system hospital together as one team.
• Working with other inpatient clinical service areas, such as the emergency department, surgery, and critical care to provide outstanding high-value care and patient experience.
• Nurturing an environment of interdisciplinary collaboration with clinical and administrative partners in the delivery of care, such as nursing and case management.
• Overseeing quality and safety for inpatient medicine across the health system.
• Working with the internal medicine and medicine-pediatric programs to support training of residents.
• Supporting scholarly activity of members of the Division.
• Recruitment of hospitalists and advanced practice providers for the Division to meet the different missions for the Division, Department, and Health System.
• Position reports to the Chair, Department of Medicine.
We offer the exceptional, experienced leader a unique opportunity to lead one of the largest integrated hospital medicine programs in the country. This dynamic opportunity will participate in redesigning delivery of care model across four hospitals in western Massachusetts. The successful candidate will work closely with senior leadership to meet organizational goals for transitions of care including the development of hospital in the home programs and decreasing readmissions to the emergency room and hospital. The successful candidate will work closely with specialty service lines to support transfers from outside hospitals to meet system goals in tertiary/quaternary growth. The successful candidate will work with the leadership teams of our managed care contracts including our Medicare and Medicaid accountable care organizations. The person in this role is a key member of the Department of Medicine Leadership Team.
Qualifications
• At least 5-10 years of experience post-training with evidence of progressive management responsibilities and leadership in an academic department.
• A strong record of collaboration; must possess the ability to engage a broad base of potential stakeholders to work towards a shared vision.
