Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Attending Opportunity

Baystate Health, western Massachusetts’ premier healthcare provider and home to the University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School – Baystate, is seeking an EMS physician to join our organization.

Position Highlights –

• Join our team of 3 progressive EMS physicians who provide oversight of EMS at our 4 hospitals across western MA. Baystate Medical Center, the region’s only level I Trauma and tertiary care referral center, serves over 120,000 annual ED visits and 40,000 EMS arrivals annually. Our 4 Eds, including those at our 3 regional hospitals, serve a combined volume of over 200,000 annual visits.
• Assist with the oversight and delivery of a variety of services to urban, rural, municipal, volunteer, private and fire department-based agencies, including an EMS physician vehicle program and CAMTS-accredited ground critical care transport services.
• Combination of clinical care and teaching of an EMS fellow, residents, and medical students with a faculty appointment at University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School- Baystate. Our new ACGME approved EMS fellowship begins in July 2023 with one EMS fellow.

Baystate Eastern Region

Baystate Health's Eastern Region consists of Baystate Wing Hospital (Palmer MA), Baystate Mary Lane Outpatient Center (Ware MA), and primary care practices.

Baystate Wing Hospital (BWH) has been serving patients in the Palmer, Quaboag Hills and Pioneer Valley region since 1913 and is fully accredited by the Joint Commission and is designated as a Primary Stroke Service hospital by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. It was also recently recognized by Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services as one of model hospitals promoting health and improving quality of care for our patients. The hospital and its community medical centers are focused on high quality patient-centered care delivered by physicians specializing in 45 medical disciplines, including adult family medicine, internal medicine, geriatric medicine OB/GYN, and pediatric medicine.

Baystate Mary Lane Outpatient Center (BMOC) serves the residents of Ware and its surrounding communities offering a variety of primary and specialty health care including cancer, cardiology, surgery, and imaging services. The Satellite Emergency Facility at BMOC cares for emergency injuries or illness, with highly skilled emergency medicine physicians, nurses and staff. The facility is a satellite of Baystate Wing Hospital in Palmer, Massachusetts. Emergency care at the Satellite Emergency Facility is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Quality of Life

Palmer MA, just 20 minutes east of Springfield, is in the heart of western MA and is easily commutable from popular towns such as Longmeadow, Amherst, and Wilbraham. Local private and public schools are strong, and there are more than fifty colleges and universities within 50 miles. The ski areas of Bousquet and Ski Butternut are within an hour’s drive. Brimfield, Nipmuck and Ludlow State Forests and picturesque Quabbin Reservoir are also nearby, as are more than two-dozen public and private golf courses. Palmer Motorsports Park will soon host exciting sports car club racing, too.

Providers who work at Baystate Mary Lane in Ware have an abundance of great towns to choose to live in, from Wilbraham and Amherst to Belchertown and the Brookfields. The area offers classic New England lifestyles, with old Victorian charm, rolling hills and farmland as far as the eye can see. An outdoor enthusiasts’ paradise, the area is highlighted by the magnificent Quabbin Reservoir— the state’s largest inland body of water and home to a wide variety of wildlife. Also nearby is the Five-College Consortium of Amherst, Hampshire, Mount Holyoke, Smith and UMass. Ware is 40 minutes east of Springfield and 15 minutes from Palmer.
